9 – 12 September
We first met Kennedy in 2019 when he gave an extraordinary performance in When It Arrives choreographed by Anthony Matsena. Since then Kennedy has since set up the Kennedy Muntanga Dance Theatre.
Greater Than Lion is a new contemporary dance work created by Kennedy Muntanga Dance Theatre based on two tales, ‘Greater Than Lion’ from the book The Girl Who Married A Lion by Alexander McCall Smith, and the biblical tale of Jonah and The Whale. This work follows a couple mourning the death of their child. This work has strong themes of rebirth, death, confrontation, grief and acceptance.
Kennedy Junior Muntanga is a movement artist born in Ndola, Zambia where he resided until he was 7. The importance of dance was already embedded in him through his African heritage, which he began to study from the age of 12. Kennedy furthered his training and graduated in Ballet and Contemporary Dance at the Rambert School in July 2019.
Kennedy is the Artistic Director of Kennedy Muntanga Dance Theatre, a new company based in London whose mission is to create work that represents many cultures, life experiences and stories.
So far, Kennedy has worked with the Akram Khan Company and companies such as Phoenix Dance Theatre, Humanhood, Robert Cohan, Michael Keegan-Dolan, Alesandra Seutin & Raman Schlemmer.
