Join 4X20 Choreography Platform dance workshops to learn about the methods and creativity of choreographer John-William Watson.
The workshop will focus on two main movement ideas; musicality and randomness. Through guided improvisation we will search for a sandbox-like vocabulary, where any random movement, image or gesture can be used to create a highly musical, playful vocabulary – exploring the movement language and ethos used within their work.
John-William Watson is a dance theatre maker and director from Leeds, whose work is highly theatrical and tragi-comedic. They draw influence from Surrealism, abstracting and playing with utilitarian and pedestrian movement to explore relationships between existentialism, the comedy of the mundane, nostalgia and time. John-William is an alumni of The Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, and became a Sadler’s Wells Young Associate in 2020 and a Northern Connections Artist in 2021.
