Man is an Animal is the most extensive collection of large-scale sculptures by Dame Elisabeth Frink to be shown in this country. Loaned from various institutions and private collectors in the UK and overseas, and first exhibited at the Gerhard Marcks Haus Museum in Bremen, it presages a deeper understanding about Frink’s sculptural language and her sense of Man’s strengths and vulnerabilities. Frink’s original Blue Door studio from her Woolland home – the origin for so many of these works – will be reconstructed as part of the exhibition as a source of insight and information into process and her artistic career.
