Born in 1960, Richard Pomeroy studied Art History at Manchester University and is now Chairman of Somerset Art Works.
“Trees are an essential part of my work and these studies are made in front of the subject using pencil on paper. Trees contain history and personality far more strongly than other plant life and form structures in the landscape. They know nature better than we do and most will exist far longer than the viewer. To record them is a pleasure. Wessex has very good treelife – the beechwoods witin Penselwood in Wiltshire are magnificent and ancient. Monterey pines, introduced with great success around Dartmouth in the 20th century, are much more impressive than their Californian ancestors.”
