Understanding colour in ceramic glazes is a practical studio session.

Course description:
This is an introduction to the materials which potters use to create colourful glazes. Aimed at the beginner and intermediate student, this course will describe the difference between ceramics stains and metal oxides and ways they are applied to glazes.
In the morning our pottery tutor Mirka Golden-Hann will introduce you to the basics of glaze technology and describe the nature of materials potters use to create glazes.
Later you will be shown how to mix your own glaze tests and how to introduce colour to them using the line blend method exploring incremental increase of colour saturation in glaze.
Please bring: Apron, note book/sketch book
Please wear: Comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes.
Cost of lunch is not included. Please bring a packed lunch or alternatively you can have lunch in Tisbury at Messum’s Restaurant.
