Lithographic printing on clay

In this short course you will practise the technique of lithographic printing on to leather hard clay. It involves using laser photocopied images, ceramics stains mixed with linseed oil, and gum Arabic. The studio will prepare leather hard slabs. However, course attendees may choose to prepare their own leather hard work to print on. The process works well on flat surfaces such as tiles, cylinders, and plates. The tutor will bring a wide range of images but learners are welcome to bring their own clearly defined b/w images or text (which should be in reverse).

Charlotte Stockley is a ceramic designer maker with over 10 years teaching experience. She graduated from UCA Farnham in 2013 with a degree in Three Dimensional Design (Ceramics). Charlotte moved to north Dorset in 2021 and set up her studio there, where she makes thrown porcelain and stoneware functional pieces. With an interest in surface design, Charlotte utilises various printing techniques together with decal transfers to create a unique body of work. Her work is sold through many galleries and she also collaborates with a number of museums to make bespoke collections for their shops.

Students are welcome to bring their own leather hard work to print on. We recommend pieces with flat surfaces or straight cylindrical forms. Studio firing fee will apply to this work.
