Course description:

This is an introduction to glaze materials and glaze making course aimed at the glaze technology beginner.

In the morning our pottery tutor Andy Glass will introduce you to the materials potters use to create glazes. This will be an opportunity to discover and learn about what individual components of glazes are and the reasons potters use them.  In the afternoon you will be shown how to mix your own glazes using bought powdered glaze but also how to follow a published recipe.

Andy Glass is Messums Creative technical expert and pottery tutor. Andy completed his degree in Ceramics in 1996 at the University of Derby. After university he worked as a production thrower for several years and consequently in the early 00’s developed his ceramic practice through a series of Artistic Residencies at Cranleigh Arts Centre in Surrey, South Hill Park Arts Centre, and Wysning Arts Centre. His career includes a wide teaching portfolio as well as kiln and pottery equipment engineering. Andy has decided to step away from his engineering job in order to concentrate on returning to developing his own creative voice.

Bring: apron, pencil, notebook. Please wear closed-toe shoes.

This course is intended for adults but may be attended by students aged 16+ providing that they come together with an adult who is also a member of the class.
