Body Talks in Clay | Sunday 23 October

Date: 23 October
Times: 10.00-13.00
Course: £70
Biscuit firing of your sculptures: £20

Course Description:

Body Talks in Clay is a material exploration of topics discussed during the Body Talks symposium at Messums Wiltshire the day before. Body Talks is co-curated by Katy Barron, Dr Claudia Milburn, and Johnny Messum and includes a series of talks and discussions with artists and guests whose practices cover different genres in considering how the female form occupies a place in their practice.

Body Talks in Clay is led by Wiltshire based sculptor and tutor Charlotte Moreton. In this short sculpture session you will have the opportunity to work with a life model in order to observe, translate, and interpret in clay the line, the movement and the emotion which the female body form declares. You will work with a series of poses creating a number of small clay sculptures.

The cost of this course includes a material allowance of 4 kg per person, and at the end of the session you can either choose to take your sculptures home unfired, or you can opt for us to biscuit fire your work to make it permanent. Once you collect your piece biscuit fired, you can choose to paint it at home using any paint or you can return to glaze your piece in one of our future glaze sessions.

Charlotte Moreton trained at the Frink School of Figurative Sculpture (1999-2001). Her practice derives from nature and her background in nature conservation work and her sculpture is greatly influenced by trees and nature.  Described by Jonathan Dimbleby as “A very talented sculptor”, Charlotte is also an experienced and insightful and sensitive tutor.

Bring: apron, pencil, notebook. Please wear closed-toe shoes.

This course is intended for all ages. *Children aged 16+ are welcome to come with their adults.
