Course description:

This is a short taster workshop ideal for those who have always longed to have a go.  This course will provide you with the ideal opportunity to try out the potter’s wheel, to have fun making your first masterpiece and to see if you too will ‘get the bug’ with Polly Cazalet.  This course will concentrate on just throwing. The shapes you will be learning will be small flat bottom bowls and cylindrical forms. Depending on how much practice you will want to gain, you can choose to join Polly for half day or more.

Materials explained: Clay will be provided as part of the course. There is no extra charge if you wish to take home your unfired pieces. If you would like us to fire your work for you to have as a forever keepsake or to use in order later to learn about how to glaze, please add into your basket the biscuit firing option. If you would like to attend our glaze session please also add into your basked the glaze session. In studio ceramics we refer to the first firing as ‘biscuit’ (or ‘bisque’) firing. This firing turns clay into hard ceramic material upon which glaze is applied ready for the second firing which is called gloss or glaze firing. Clay is fired to approximately 1000 C for the first Biscuit firing. The second, glaze firing is either fired at Stoneware temperature (approximately 1250 C) or Earthenware to approximately 1050C. At Messums Creative we embrace sustainable creative learning practice and our system is designed to enable our students to make the best choice for them.

Bring: apron, pencil, notebook. Please wear closed-toe shoes.

This course is intended for adults but may be attended by students aged 14+ providing that they come together with an adult who is also a member of the class.
