Tutor: Finn Bush
The brightness of white earthenware clay fits perfectly with Elizabeth Frink’s magical Snowy Owl pictures. She returned many times to the theme of owls which are among the most beautiful depictions of these noble creatures. Sculpting with an expressive textural style you will be encouraged to create the spirit-like atmosphere of Fink’s owls but also sculpt your ideas of how an owl should look. Should its wings be outspread? Should it be at rest or just taking off? Has it turned to look at you? This is a chance to sculpt using paperclay one of nature’s most enigmatic animals.
Finn Bush is experienced in working both in education and decorative arts practice. Ceramics has been Finn’s major means for expression right from earliest childhood attempts in his parents’ studio and during his creative career he developed a direct ‘hands on’ attitude to the use of materials and expanded his knowledge mainly on a ‘trial and error’ basis. He studied art for five years at Central St Martin’s and at Plymouth Collage of Art and Design and believes in the wide spectrum of expression offered by clay. Through his teaching Finn seeks to bring character and a sense of freedom to the materials he uses.
