Peter Burke (b. 1944) comments that ‘this group of works is an exploration between people, a sense of place and the earth’. He believes that in this time of awareness – of the fragility of our environment and way of life – it is perhaps a good time to refer back to the basics; to people and our natural resources. The clays he has used in his series of sculptures Meditations On A Landscape are all sourced from the West Country, near where he lives in Bradford on Avon.
After a student apprenticeship with Rolls Royce Aero Engines, Burke studied sculpture at Bristol Polytechnic in the fine art faculty. He has shown at New Arts Centre, Roche Court and at Southwark Cathedral. Burke has work in public collections including those in Korea, Lisbon and London.
