Become a Friend of M E S S U M S W I L T S H I R E
The Friends programme at Messums Wiltshire supports education and performance. We believe that art is a universal means of communication, a defining characteristic of humanity that should be accessible to all, as such with the Friends support we offer schools free and exclusive use of the buildings two days a week where pupils are given a tour of the latest exhibitions and are inspired to create artworks of their own.
It is our remit to support the creative endeavour, using the remarkable characteristics of the barn and long galleries to create an environment that encourages artists to expand and explore their repertoire. Our Friends enable us to invite internationally acclaimed artists such as Judy Pfaff, David Spriggs and Bruce Munro who are amongst those who have created site-specific works in response to the barn. We also support, with our Friends help, internationally acclaimed and upcoming performers and choreographers, both bringing contemporary dance to the region and supporting those as they start out on their careers.
As a thank you for your support for the arts, we run a schedule of events exclusively for our Friends. The tours, talks and visits are a great opportunity to meet with likeminded people as well as getting the inside track on the artists and exhibitions.
As one of our Friends you can join us for one of our regular studio visits to artists based around the country.
From Bridget McCrum’s glorious sculpture garden and studio in Dittisham to the bronze foundry of Laurence Edwards and a visit to the V&A residency Malene Hartmann Rasmussen, the days out give a unique insight in to the work and practice of some of our best artists and makers.
Art Fairs & Tours
Messum Wiltshire’s curator Catherine Milner and Kate Sallier de la Tour lead a small group of collectors including the Messums Friends around the Venice Biennale in a five night tour of the most important fixture in the contemporary art calendar.
We also run a Friends tour during Mayfair Art Week with lunch that finishes on our gallery in Cork Street.
Behind the Scenes
Ahead of our exhibition previews, we run a regular Friends tour and talk of the show led by our curators and exhibiting artists. The Friends enjoy a behind-the-scenes, exclusive preview and complimentary lunch and drinks.
Our next Friends talk, tour and lunch will be ahead of the Frink Studio exhibition opening.
We rely on the support of our Friends to carry out our mission to make art more accessible and to support the work of contemporary artists and craftspeople.
