Join us for a rare opportunity to be part of a group portrait taken by photographer Angela Williams. We are delighted that Angela will join us for the opening of an intimate exhibition of photographs taken by herself and mentor Norman Parkinson. Her talk will provide a fascinating insight in to the fashion world of the sixties working all over the world alongside the great and good of the era. There is the option to stay for supper in the Mess Restaurant afterwards and be part of a group photo taken by Angela which will be printed as a limited run.

The exhibition includes the image that Angela initially sent to Parkinson when, as a young upcoming photographer, she speculatively wrote to him for work experience and quickly became his personal assistant. Their close working relationship and creative collaboration led to Angela having the opportunity to visit and photograph some incredible people and locations and unearthed a talent that is evident to this day.

Norman Parkinson was the most celebrated fashion and photographer of his day. Before him fashion photographs had a stiff formality to them, Parkinson worked for a wide range of international publications, notably Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country which brought him worldwide recognition. He pioneered an easy and casual elegance in to the art which influenced Angela throughout her career.

Williams has amassed an impressive range of portraits spanning the duration of her career. Subjects of particular note include Paul Newman, Audrey Hepburn and Jane Fonda. Williams continues to run the Angela Williams Archive – a collection of Parkinson’s vintage prints, dating from 1950-64, as well as her own work.
