Chris Riisager was born in Oxford in 1961 but gre up in Wiltshire. After studying at Goldsmiths, he returned here as an artist and teacher.
“My chief interest in landscape painting lies in design. Strong shapes and shadows that define in all weathers. And colour – at the same time convincing and in harmony with the spirit of the place.
A good view to paint is hard to find and yet often on the doorstep. The time of year, the time of day and the weather, usually conspire against the artist; but only to push one to work differently and to think afresh, as painters of the past contine to show us.
In 30 years of painting I’m never sure when I go out to paint whether I’m escaping from the studio to be outside, orconfronting the real work of the painter.”
