Bella is a direct tenth generation descendent of the original builder of Stourhead and has lived in the hamlet of Gasper, just a stone’s throw away from the mansion and formal gardens, for all of her life.
For years she worked exclusively in watercolour but during the last ten years has moved to oils, painting plein air and using the gardens, and woodlands of the Stourhead parkland as her inspiration. Her work is in private collections both nationally and internationally.
Each time she paints a familiar landscape she sees something new and is able to share the joy. She has painted the view pictured here many times, and on this occasion, was struck by the softness of the reflections on the lake and sense of the landscape floating within the autumnal atmosphere.
