Friday 25 August 2017, 10-1pm & 2-5pm  Booking

Using their student-built boats as visual aids, the award winning Boat Building Academy from Lyme Regis are running two half day courses at Messums Wiltshire, introducing the skills of lofting and of cold-moulding planking.  Lofting is the art of enlarging the plans and drawing to full-size to produce key components of the boat’s structure, cold moulding uses layers of veneers to form the hull.  Just for fun everyone will also try their hand at the very traditional boat building skills of steam bending and copper nailing, making not a boat but a bracelet.

The courses are two half day sessions and are open to adults and children over 16 with an interest in wood work and boats.  No prior experience is required and all tools are supplied.  Both morning and afternoon courses will cover lofting and planking.
